changing slope resistor

Postby sweetwilliam » Thu Feb 16, 2006 11:19 pm

What will it affect?

If I go from 33k to 47k, or down to 27k, what differences will I hear?

33k more mids, preceived gain. 47k/56k etc less mids, cleaner, clearer

so lower value gives more mids & gain, while higher scoops mids and cleans up

Is the "contour" control on more recent Marshall amps a variable slope resistor?

Billy -- what modelling program did you use for that graphic?

I think it is the Tone Stack Calculator, a free download here: http://www.duncanamps.com/tsc/
Very nice little app.

You´ll need Virtual PC to run it on a Mac. (I´ve noticed that you are on Mac, Bash. So am I) Since it´s a small App, it runs very well, so I haven´t tried to port the Linux version to MacOS X.
Should´nt be a problem, though.

Has anybody tried instead of changing the tone stack in a Marshall from 56k/250pf to 33k/500pf, changing just the resistor so it's 33k/250pf?

I just did a screen capture. Hit the Print Screen button and the screen will be on the clipboard to past in any graphic program.
