You can start with Webers AC30 kit. Then its up to you to decide the best caps, resistors, trannys and tubes. And speakers but I think Webers speakers are a great place to start anyway. And since all his parts are all made for or by him his kits are cheap! For instance if you get the kit minus the speakers its only like -$120 where he normaly charges $150 per AlNiCo. Minus the trannys its like -$60 or 80 or something.

Questions: What are "RS Tagstrips" (What does that stand for)....I thought they were called "Turret boards".

What is "Power Scaling"? A variable output power control?

Do they have cabinets available...they sure look sweet.

Tag strip is just that. Long narrow piece of micarta board with a bunch of eye tabs on the top edge and a couple legs for mounting and grounds on the bottom side. They use two of these and hang all the components between the strips. No board on an original AC30.

Power Scaling is exactly that, a way of controlling the wattage output by controlling the voltage in the power tubes. This retains the power tube distorsion which is vital in an AC30 to get the sound, a master volume just can't do that.

I don't believe they supply cabs but they have a vendor who can. I know that is weird.

908:

Ahhh....yes. I know them as "Terminal Boards".

The RS must mean "Radio Shack?

I have a sack of those in my basement.

They sure look crude compared to George's Turret boards.

Hey, what does he make them from? Fiberglass?

My Twin Reverb has something similar, but I've read it's called "oil board". Go figure. :)

908:Not weird...if somebody's set up to do just woodwork/covering/hardware....then it takes a load off the Amp builder.

George does this, and I've heard the cabinets are works of art. 8)

If you order a finished amp from George he doesn't send you the chassis and tell you to get your own cab does he? Well that is exactly what JMJ does so yes I think that is weird.

Sorry for the misunderstanding.

No, George sells completed amps 100% ready to go...Cabinet included.

I thought you were referring to just kits, which I read on the Metroamp Website you could buy different combinations of parts, and options.

I always thought RS stood for Radio Spares components! :)
Here are some Vox photos and chassis shots, from AC15 Jennings,to AC15 twins and a rare AC40,from the archives of Yngwie308:

Hey 308 you have two different amp chassis pictured under where you say it is a AC40? What make it a 40? They both look like they take EL84 tubes, bigger transformers? I have 1993 reissue and they really did a good job on mine. I have played it next to a 62 JMI that Plexi Palace restored and it compared very well.
